Some Tips For Starting Kitchen Renovation Projects

There are a dizzying number of considerations that are part of a kitchen renovation project. It is easy for the completion date to sneak up on you if you are not careful. A kitchen renovation can (at times) feel overwhelming. But, with a minimum of organisation, the process can be made to run smoothly and be an almost hassle-free process.

Here are a few tips from BDW to try and make organising your kitchen renovation as painless as possible.

Start with a set budget

Plan a budget ahead of time and set yourself a realistic amount to stick to during the kitchen renovation project. This will avoid overspending. It can be all too easy to get carried away with kitchen renovations. If you are not careful, you will end up with some additional expenses you can’t really afford because you didn’t do the sums. Make sure to prioritise your budget and not forget services like builders, plumbers and electricians.

Either go DIY or hire some professional tradies

This decision goes hand in hand with budget planning and needs to be made at the start of the project – whether you will take the whole kitchen renovation project yourself or if hiring professionals may be the best choice to make. With many projects, a bit of both is the best option. Most people will need builders, plumbers and electricians. Some people will hire a company to remove your current kitchen. Leaving you with the easier, more manageable tasks of putting everything in place.

Design inspiration

Inspiration is all around you. A simple Google search will return over 2 billion results. Some great magazines such as Wallpaper and Vogue Interiors offer some beautiful examples of interior designs. Visiting showrooms are also a great way to give you design ideas. It also lets you touch and feel the materials and quality of the kitchen products. You may end up creating something that you may have never thought of.

Layout and design

Take stock of what you have and what you do not have. That will give you a list of what you need to get and do – your starting point when designing your new kitchen. When designing a kitchen, make sure it is functional. Firstly, it needs to fulfil your every day to day needs. Make sure to include the right amount of storage. Benchtop space needs to be considered and designated areas for kitchen appliances – power point placement needs some serious attention. Lastly, Don’t forget to include lighting in the design, as it can make a huge difference.
